Happiness in the Midst of Sadness

Early this morning my grandfather, Verlyn Cox, passed away. It came as a bit of a surprise to some of us, because we didn't know the cancer was that far along and we thought we had a few more months. He was in a lot of pain and couldn't eat much of anything. But because of his pain, his death comes as bit of a relief because now he is in pain no longer. And since he was a Christian, we know we will see him again someday.

Even still, it is hard not to be sad and miss him. I had planned on going to visit him in Illinois after the first of the year. I wanted to spend some time with him before he passed. But unfortunately, he didn't last that long. I am happy and sad about that at the same time. Happy because I would have hated for him to have to endure life the way he was and in that kind of pain for even another day, let alone several weeks....just so I could selfishly see him one last time. But, of course, I'm sad that I didn't get that chance to see him again before he left us..to give him that last hug and last kiss goodbye.

He loved his wife, children, many grandchildren, and even more great grandchildren very much. He was very proud of his ever growing family and was interested in every single one of us. He will be greatly missed.

I love you, Grandpa. This is not 'goodbye', but 'see you later'. I look forward to giving you that hug and kiss 'hello' when I see you again!

A New Program

Hitting the weights these past few weeks has felt awesome! This week I started doing some DC training, doing a two-day split. It's exciting doing something new and I look forward to seeing the changes it will bring about. I can't wait to watch the increase in strength and the muscle mass that will follow.

I've changed up my cardio schedule just slightly and I'm doing a variety of exercises (3 hours a week total). I'm enjoying the new lifting schedule as well... Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only. They make for long workouts, but it's nice to have the extra nights off to spend with the family.
